2010 Stanley Museum Consignment Auction

Friday, July 9th 2010

Kingfield, Maine

The 7th Stanley Museum Consignment Auction is scheduled for Friday, July 9, 2010, in Kingfield, Maine. Mark your calendars and start dusting off all the extraneous steam car parts and literature in your collection for consignment. At this date we have close to 250 lots already consigned: engines, parts, photographs, literature - and it's anticipated that there will be a car or two. What do you have to offer? For best sales results, get your items and photos in to the Museum in time for inclusion in the official auction catalog - around the beginning of May 2010. The 2008 auction was a tremendous success - with over 370 lots and five running Stanleys, the SMI auction had something for everyone! The 2008 auction also raised close to $50,000 for the Stanley Museum, and without that support we may have had to close our doors. In times like these the Stanley Museum auction takes on even more importance. Let's make the 7th Consignment Auction the best auction ever! Contact the Stanley Museum at maine@stanleymuseum.org or 207-265-2729 to find out how you can take part. Your participation can make a difference!

SPECIAL INFORMATION FOR BIDDERS

Bidder Registration

All bidders must register with the Stanley Museum. A $25 (twenty-five dollar) non-refundable fee must be submitted by check or credit card to the Stanley Museum, P.O. Box 77, Kingfield, ME 04967, Tel.: 207-265-2729, email: maine@stanleymuseum.org or on location at the preview or day of the auction. This fee entitles the bidder to a printed auction catalog (and post-auction results). Pre-registration is encouraged. Bidders must also sign-in in person at the auction site to receive their seat numbers and bidder numbers.

Absentee Bidding and Off Site Bidding

Bidders who cannot attend the auction in person may submit an absentee bid by filling out an Absentee Bidders’ Form in advance [for a copy of the form, press here or contact the Stanley Museum].  Absentee bidders can fill out the form to bid on specific items from the auction catalog and provide information for billing, such as a credit card. The successful bidder using an absentee bid form can designate total payment through their credit card, or at least 20% of the total and check another option as to how the item(s) will be paid post-auction (e.g.: bank transfer). Completed and signed absentee bidders’ forms should be mailed to the Stanley Museum  as early as possible for registration.

Telephone Bids will be accepted on the day of the auction at the discretion of the Stanley Museum and the auctioneer. Arrangements must be made well in advance of the sale and confirmed by letter, telegram, facsimile, or email.

PLEASE NOTE: Successful bidders submitting winning bids from off site – either from Absentee Bidding, Telephone Bidding, or Online Bidding (see below) – will incur an additional administrative surcharge of 3% to the existing Buyer’s Premium. Combined with the Stanley Museum’s 10% Buyer’s Premium, this will result in a buyer being subjected to a 13% charge on all winning bids submitted from off site.

Online Bidding

Bidders will also be able to participate in remote bidding in real time via the internet. Online bidding will be available through Proxibid at www.proxibid.com (http://www.proxibid.com/). Bidders electing this option will be able to see and hear the auctioneer and submit bids just as though they were present in the auction hall.

Online bidders will have to register for this service through Proxibid’s website in addition to registering as bidders with the Stanley Museum as described above. Successful bidders using the online Proxibid service will also incur an additional surcharge of 3% to the existing Buyer’s Premium. Combined with the Stanley Museum’s 10% Buyer’s Premium, this will result in a buyer being subjected to 13% on a purchase via online bidding.

Any questions about registering to bid and other auction inquiries should be directed to the Stanley Museum, and we will try to answer your questions promptly.

The Stanley Museum Auction will once again be conducted through the professional services of the Keenan Auction Company, One Runway Road, South Portland, Maine 04106; 207-885-5100; info@keenanauction.com, www.keenanauction.com.
